About the program

Community College of Philadelphia's Welding Technology program combines welding theory with extensive lab work in SMAW, GMAW, pulsed GMAW, GTAW, Oxy-Fuel Cutting, and Plasma Arc Cutting. Students work with plate and pipe in carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and copper-nickel while developing blueprint, WPS, inspection-readiness, safety, and workplace skills aligned with demanding shipbuilding and industrial environments.

What participants will learn

  • +SMAW, GMAW, pulsed GMAW, and GTAW equipment setup and operation
  • +Structural and pipe welding across multiple joint types and positions
  • +Carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and copper-nickel welding
  • +Oxy-Fuel and Plasma Arc Cutting
  • +Blueprints, weld symbols, and Welding Procedure Specifications
  • +Filler metals, shielding gases, consumables, and process parameters
  • +Preheat, interpass temperature, distortion, and defect control
  • +Visual weld evaluation, inspection readiness, and safety documentation

Who this program is for

  • +Must be at least 18 years old to submit the workforce application
  • +High school diploma or equivalent required
  • +Basic math and measurement skills are recommended
  • +Participants should be prepared for extensive hands-on welding lab work
