Paid preparation can make a training schedule more realistic. It is still important to know what you are applying for: a preparatory cohort, not an automatic place in a union apprenticeship or a construction job.
Understand the training offer
CenterState CEO's Syracuse Build overview describes hourly paid adult training and help with apprenticeship applications. This is participation-based support, not a scholarship you can spend at another provider.
Ask about the specific cohort's hours, pay, attendance expectations and payment timing. General program descriptions and dated cohort notices need not describe the same schedule.
Check the deadline behind the banner
On September 27, 2026, the intake portal still displayed an accepting-applications banner and an August 11 deadline. The linked Cohort 11 notice listed August 7 instead, with training beginning September 28.
Both application dates are past. A live form or an upcoming class start is not evidence that applications are still being accepted. Contact the program about the next cohort or another appropriate route.
Verify residency and screening
The reviewed cohort requires City of Syracuse residency and age 18 or older, among other conditions. Living elsewhere in Central New York does not automatically meet a city-residency requirement.
Ask what the next intake requires rather than submitting documents against an old checklist. Confirm travel expectations and any available support before planning around the class.
Separate preparation from hiring
Training, a referral, an apprenticeship application and an employer's hiring decision are different steps. Do not budget future union wages or assume a Micron assignment based on acceptance into a preparation course.
